Meghan Blair, LCMHC

Hi! I’m Meghan, clinician and founder of Blair Counseling, PLLC.

I graduated from William James College in 2018 with a MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with an emphasis in couples and family therapy.

I specialize in working with teenagers 13 and up and adults. My focus is skillfully working on interpersonal relationships, whether they are romantic, friendship, or work relationships. I also help others increase feeling confident in themselves with learning how to trust the process of life, helping find peace and control (in things that we can control!), and manage worrying.

I have a strong background in trauma treatment, and will utilize trauma-focused therapy as a foundation for all treatments to rule out, or confirm, trauma. I also use trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy as well as cognitive processing therapy in addition to mindfulness and somatic interventions.

Therapy boosts mental well-being, self-awareness, and helps to cope with stress. My mission is to create a safe, supportive trauma-informed environment for personal development and improved connections.

Let me show you how.

My approach

  • Everyone experiences life differently, so it makes sense that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all. Your therapy is tailored to you, your life, and your goals. Together, we will focus on what matters to you the most. Together, we will work to strengthen skills and have confidence to move forward.

  • I believe that therapy and true healing happens when we address the mind-body connection. In therapy, we’ll learn grounding and mindfulness skills, encourage self-care outside of therapy and use somatic interventions in sessions. Together, we’ll work on finding the underlying root of challenges, rather than just treating the symptoms.

  • I understand that going to therapy whether it is your 1st or 15th time can feel overwhelming and intimidating. My focus is creating a genuine connection and building trust with you. This is a space where you can feel heard an truly be yourself in a laid-back atmosphere. Together, we’ll laugh, cry, and I’ll be happy to be the one who holds this space for you.

  • It works a lot like in-person therapy, only in the comfort of your home. As long as you are in a confidential space with the door closed in the state of North Carolina, a therapy session can look like a messy bun, pajamas in the comfort of your couch, or your safe space with your animal holding a coffee or tea. The ease of virtual therapy is unbeatable, and that’s why I love it so much!

I use a platform called Simple Practice. Reminders will be sent to your e-mail and/or your phone and you’ll receive a link. You can use the link on a computer or your phone, making it easily accessible.

Grab your favorite grounding tool, pet, or mug, and let’s get started!

  • Virtual therapy has been shown to be just as effective as in-person therapy, including accessibility of care, convenience, and comfort. Despite my physical location in Wilmington, offering therapy to those all over North Carolina have been a wonderful change for ease of access.

This changing world that we are in allows individuals to engage in discussing mental health however it may seem comfortable to them. It also doesn’t hurt to do therapy in your safe space in your favorite hoodie.

  • Walk-and-talk therapy involves immersing ourselves in nature while having therapy sessions. This approach is not designated as a physical health session, and moves away from this idea. Rather, walk-and-talk provides a grounding session accompanied by engaging in self-expression and reflection.

The movement, grounding, and natural surroundings greatly benefit the therapeutic process, offering unique and often more relaxing setting than sitting across from one another.

  • If you are interested in walk-and-talk therapy, you and I will engage in a virtual intake session to go over the consent form. We will continue to adhere to confidentiality. In a natural setting such as walk-and-talk, we will need to prepare if you or I run into anyone we know. Together, we will come up with a plan to decide on how to address this should we see someone who you know.

On my end, I will not offer any explanation, discuss or hint to anyone we run into that we are in a session. I will not discuss your treatment to anyone. All individuals who I know in my personal and professional life acknowledge that I am a therapist and are aware of the importance of privacy.

  • One of my favorite sayings that I learned from another therapist is, “You are the captain of the ship. I cannot steer or operate the boat for you, but I can certainly help you get to your destination”.

Together, we will put together an individualized plan set with goals for you to work on. We will identify and work on a journey that caters to your unique needs. Therapy is more than talking and asking a therapist for advice - it is learning about and implementing skills, techniques and strategies catered to your own individual goals. Therapy is a place to help assist you learning about symptoms, how to improve communication, and reflecting on your thoughts and feelings.

  • If you are feeling overwhelmed, or just overall living in today’s world, therapy is beneficial.

Therapy helps with gaining insight by developing and working on coping skills and providing a supportive space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

Success often depends on your commitment, the therapeutic relationship (do you feel like you can trust/feel comfortable?) and your openness. It is normal (and more than okay!) to have doubts, and if you have any questions or concerns I’m more than happy to talk to you in order to help me learn how to help you and reach your goals best!

  • Yes! I accept Aetna, Cigna, Oxford Health, Oscar, and United Healthcare. I am currently waiting to be approved for Blue Cross Blue Shield. I also offer self-pay to clients who are not using insurance.

  • Homework is great to improve accountability and reflection outside of sessions. Typically, homework in the beginning is a lot of mindfulness, grounding, and tracking behaviors. Homework is optional, but if you are open to it, I am more than happy to make sure that we leave the session with reflection questions, journaling or skills to practice. Therapy homework is nothing like school homework! You won’t be graded, and if homework isn’t completed, we will definitely work on it together at the beginning of sessions.
